Some of the last photos of my previous house. I moved out after four years of being there and having a cool garden for two.
Last year when the corn was high.
Not all the details are clear, but there was/is a sandbag situation down the block from me. An older woman, Cristine at 333 Elm NW, threatened a friend, then suicide, then a DC mental health professional. In the end it seems hundreds of police, two swat teams, ladder trucks and even police snipers are involved. This started around 11 and is still going on now, at 5 PM.
Hard to see but this Swat member had full battle gear on, some sort of automatic weapon and a peanut butter sandwich in a bag.
Odd Swat vehicle with the guys up on top in two rows.
The ladder truck used to get the snipers onto people’s roofs.
Monday I noticed with great joy and sadness that work has begun on 143 Rhode Island NW.
I have loved this triangular apartment building for years, long before I moved to DC in 2007. I was upset to see it empty for so long. The first time I saw it was maybe 1999. I asked my friends to stop and they were afraid to stop in such a neighborhood. Was the middle of the day and even in 1999 I am sure we would have been safe to look around the building. Little did I think I would move just two blocks away to it in 2007.
This Sunday morning reminded me why I am so happy to have a driveway to park in here in DC. This Saturn was just doors down from my house. Someone came around the corner, 2nd and Elm NW, and hit it super hard. The photo fails to show how even the rear seat is crushed in and the front wheel is bent from being smashed against the curb.
I did not see a note left on the car.
